This special edition focuses on Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz, connected to the earliest beginnings of South Australia’s wine industry. This eJournal explores the wine that epitomises the ambitions of the Hill-Smith family, where storied history, craftsmanship and modernity offer something special and unique in the world of wine, and includes a full vertical tasting from 1988 up to the yet to be released 2020 vintage.

The History of The Octavius Shiraz

The Octavius was named after the unique 100-litre octave’ barrels that are handcrafted on site in our Cooperage and made specially for this wine. The term octave’ was coined by our early coopers to describe a barrel an eighth the size of a standard barrel.
