Seized upon by the Romans as a much more robust vessel than clay amphorae to carry their claret from one battle to the next, oak barrels have been the storage workhorses of the world of wine for centuries.
When it comes to pairing wine and food, many of us know that a full-bodied red will go well with a rich beef dish, or that a light white wine will be perfect for seafood. But which wines do you reach for when you’re craving spicy, flavoursome dishes?
We continually strive to reduce our environmental impact, and make great wine with minimal intervention. We believe that healthier vines create better wines.
The Wine Room is Yalumba’s cellar door in the Barossa, and is open from 10am to 5pm every day, offering tastings and winery tours from 10am to 5pm every day.
Founded in 1849, Yalumba is a fiercely independent family-owned winery nestled in the heart of the Barossa. Learn about our heritage and innovative practices.
Experience Yalumba winery at our cellar door in the Barossa, at our events around Australia, or in our bed and breakfast accommodation in the Coonawarra.
Cassis and herbal accents on the nose that shows the cabernet dominance in this blend. Attractive flavours of mature fruits and savoury oak with a hint of volatility. A soundly structured wine with a firm acid backbone and soft tannins, holding together very well.
Lifted aromas with a bubblegum note to the plum fruit and wood characters. The oak is quite dominant on the medium-bodied palate yet shows good flavour weight with attractive red fruits and soft, velvety tannins on the finish.
Soft, fleshy aromas offering prune and plum jam notes allied to tarry oak. Elegant and light-bodied in the mouth with attractive mint, mocha and aniseed accents to support the developed sherry fruits.
Rich and powerful on the nose with anise and minty accents to the aroma. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a dash of charry oak to complement the intriguing old leather and spice flavours.
