The 2003 Coonawarra Spring was mild with slightly above average rainfall enabling the development of healthy vine canopies. January was dry and unexpectedly cool, whilst February returned to more normal summer conditions, with March being pleasantly dry with cool nights and warm days. These conditions allowed the grapes to retain varietal fruit flavours with a natural balance between grape sugars and acids.

The Menzies "The Retreat" Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz 2004 is crimson red in colour. The Cabernet offers aromas of berries and cedar notes with the Shiraz overlaying subtle aromas of spice and white pepper. Generous berry fruit fills the palate with soft tannins giving length and balance.
