Sessions at the tasting bench are critical to ensure we maintain both our high standards and the individuality of our wines - but also, to discuss, debate and challenge the status quo in the search for the "perfect" wine.
Louisa Rose – Chief Winemaker
"What ever the Next Big Thing turns out to be, Louisa Rose will probably be the one who makes it."
Max Allen, The Weekend Australian magazine, 6-7 June 2009
"Louisa Rose is one of Australia's most experienced and talented winemakers.
A particular focus for Louisa is the developmental work at Yalumba with Viognier, and the creation of ‘The Virgilius’ Viognier – Yalumba’s pre-eminent white wine. Louisa receives widespread recognition for her work with the variety, which is regularly considered to lead the industry.
In October 2008 Louisa was named ‘Winemaker of the Year’ by the prestigious Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine – third time lucky following two previous nominations in 2000 and 2005. This award was swiftly followed in the same month by the Wolf Blass Award for contribution to the development and promotion of Riesling, which also proudly sits alongside Louisa’s 2004 acknowledgement by International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) as winner of the 2004 Women in Wine Award, and her Barossa Winemaker of the Year Award in 1999.
It is not only her role as Chief Winemaker with Australia’s oldest family owned winemaker which keeps Louisa busy. Commencing as an Australian Wine Show Judge in 1997, Louisa is now heavily involved in judging at Australian and International Wine Shows including first female Chair of Judges at the Perth Royal Wine Show.”

Andrew La Nauze – Winemaker
Growing up in the Barossa Valley inevitably led to an interest in all things wine for Andy, but this was not where he initially began. "Being a lad growing up in the Barossa, the first thing that you want to do was escape to the big city, not stay at home", says Andy. A career in Radiography was considered yet short lived when he found he was being drawn back towards the thing he loved – wine.

Jane Ferrari – Winemaker - Communications
Jane's official job title, Winemaker - Communications, scarcely gives an indication of the scope of her role, still less of her expansive personality. Put simply, her work encompasses public relations and wine education. Her passion is as infectious as it is heartfelt. Spend an hour or so with Jane - in a London boardroom, at a New York tasting, at the Angaston winery, it doesn't matter where - and you'll find out m ore about the heritage and culture of Yalumba and the wider Barossa than most locals learn in a lifetime.
