"The Cigar is the traditional nickname for the narrow strip of Coonawarra's legendary terra rossa soil. This wine is also unofficially known as 'mini-Menzies', the understudy to Yalumba's flagship red. This is a brilliant wine, outstanding value with substance and style, deepest Coonawarra Cabernet characters of leather, cedar, blackberry and blackcurrant all classically shaped up. It's easy to get at now, but will age for more than a decade yet. If this approach were the benchmark for Coonawarra reds it wouldn't have been left to so few to fly the Coonawarra flag. It might even still be the heir apparent to Bordeaux - rather than slipping so far down the charts."
