Yalumba The Virgilius Viognier 2007
"The finest Virgilius to date! Where once this wine would have happily taken on the heavier weight, warm vintage Condrieu's in a rumble, Virgilius now is lithesome and it could conceivably tackle even the most romantic and cerebal of Northern Rhône beauties. This progression from all-in-wrestler to consummate, multi-faceted, entertainer has been incredible to watch and extraordinarily swift in its occurrence. Seek out the 2008 Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier, too, for an immediate kick of early drinking, top quality Viagra!"

Yalumba's Viognier Journey
Yalumba is now the most significant maker of Viognier in Australia and the evolution of their pre-eminent white wine "The Virgilius" is the pinnacle of over 25 years of work with this variety
After nearly two decades experimenting with and learning about Viognier, from the 1998 vintage Yalumba had sufficient confidence to release the first Virgilius. Since then they have continued to fine-tune their vineyards and winemaking, with an ongoing goal to produce wines with all the generosity and power that they currently show - combined with longevity.
The grapes for The Virgilius are sourced from the best available vines in Eden Valley, including the original vines planted in 1980 on the Vaughan’s vineyard. A key to the wine is the flavour accumulation in the fruit. In the Eden Valley this occurs late in the season, in April or early May. For such ripe fruit, high skin phenolic and potential alcohol are risks to the final wine balance. The winemaking aims to minimise and integrate these respectively, as well as to maximise the flavour and textural layering.
Yalumba The Virgilius is a Landmark Australian wine, and Winner of the International Viognier Trophy at the International Wine Challenge 2008

The Scribbler - a descendent of The Signature
Yalumba has remained steadfast in its commitment to the Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Some of Australia’s most legendary wines have been made in this style, and at the forefront has been Yalumba, who set the benchmark with ‘The Signature’ series of wine, made continuously since 1962. Yalumba ‘The Scribbler' Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz is a youthful embodiment of ‘The Signature’ which reflects our dedication to this blend and celebrates its heritage.
Yalumba launched The Scribbler with this Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz wine made from the 2006 vintage in Barossa, and just recently released the 2007 vintage. Click here to read about this wine.
